James Davis (he/him/his) is a freelance stage manager based in New York City, originally from the D.C.–Maryland–Virginia region. He holds a BFA in Theatre Stage Management from Shenandoah University and is currently pursuing his MFA in Stage Management at Columbia University, where he continues to refine both his technical expertise and his artistic philosophy.

His work spans theatre, musical theatre, and dance. As a stage manager, James views his role as more than managing cues and logistics — he is dedicated to creating environments where every artist, designer, and technician feels supported, valued, and empowered to realize their creative vision. He brings a calm, communicative, and collaborative presence to every process, fostering a rehearsal room where artistry and organization coexist in harmony.

James has contributed to a wide range of productions, from intimate new works to large-scale dance concerts, always emphasizing clear communication, adaptability, and empathy. His strengths lie in anticipating needs, facilitating collaboration, and maintaining a steady hand under pressure.

Beyond production work, James is passionate about mentorship and professional growth. He has guided emerging theatre artists in academic and professional settings and believes that strong stage management is rooted in respect, inclusivity, and integrity.
